Myself: I think that gender and sexuality are so incredibly interesting. And I know you don’t need me to tell you this, but I think the reason a lot of people are afraid of feminism is because they think that giving power to women will take power away from men. And, with that same thought, I want you to know that asserting - what you define as - your masculinity, does not take power away from women, unless it is in some way hurtful to women.
A friend: Naturally. And about taking power from men - I think that’s what feminism is. And ought to be. Because men have it. The problem is that there is an intimate association between political or social or economic power and penis power. And we are afraid of penis power pilfering. Purported penis power pilfering. Pretentiously purported penis power pilfering. Purportedly purposely pilfering pretentious penis power. Purportedly proposing purposely pilfering pretentious penis power. Purportedly proposing purposely pilfering pretentious patriarchal penis power. You should probably stop this. I can go all night.

dear readers: i think i’m propagating purported penis power pilfering. ~val
“Female toplessness is legal in a lot of places in the US (although not where I live), and I’d be meeting the letter of the law with a couple of Band-aids. But I have a gut feeling that if I go anywhere that there are people—and particularly anywhere there are children—nobody’s going to be too happy about my Band-aids. The enforcement is social; women just don’t go around topless in the US. It bothers me because it’s unequal, but it also bothers me in its implications: that my body is inherently sexual, and a man’s body isn’t. It feels like men are being viewed through the first-person lens of “it’s nice to feel the sun on my skin, and I don’t mean anything by it” and women are being viewed through the distinctly third-person lens of “it’s inappropriate for me, a heterosexual man, to see her sexy parts.” It ignores the experiences of people who are turned on by male chests and somehow manage to contain themselves when they see one.”
i’m going to sleep now—but while i sleep, you stay awake. stay awake and make something, make something really, really cool, something of intrinsic randomness, just for yourself. this is your moment. if it’s really REALLY cool, can you send it to me? kthnx!
